Jillian M. De Gezelle, Ph.D.
Dr. Jillian De Gezelle is an ethnobotanist and Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology at North Carolina State University. She has BA in Biology from Reed College, and a PhD in Biology from the joint Plant Sciences program between The Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and the New York Botanical Garden, where she studied with ethnobotanist Dr. Michael Balick. Dr. De Gezelle has been conducting ethnobotanical research in North and Central America, as well as teaching university level courses in ethnobotany and botany for 20 years. Her research focuses on medicinal and edible plants, systems of traditional medicine, plants of spiritual significance, and biocultural conservation.
